For our final assignment, we were asked to create our very own WebQuest. A WebQuest is an inquiry-based activity or lesson. All the information that the students interact with during a WebQuest activity is mainly from the web. The student is asked to complete a meaningful and interesting task that is designed to promote higher level thinking skills and enhance their online research skills.
My task was to create a WebQuest that fit my major. I chose to do a WebQuest centered around Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Cask of Amontillado." My purpose in doing this was to train students to read things through multiple times and to become conscious of the various elements that authors employ when writing to accomplish their purpose in writing. At the end of the activity, students are asked to write a 4-5 page paper arguing whether or not they believe "The Cask of Amontillado" should be considered great literature. This, of course, meant that they would have to come up with their own definition of "great literature," too, thereby promoting greater learning and comprehension, as well as in-depth thinking.
